Sport

The main centres of community sports in the parish are:

Bosworth Academy

Out of hours Learning

Students at the Academy benefit because the school has a long history in providing a range of sport, health and fitness and extra curricular classes to local community users as well as students. This has led to a mix of activities being enjoyed by members of the wider community and so enriches the learning environment. We believe that ‘learning’ is a life long activity.

There is an on site nursery run by the Academy and a Children’s Centre has been based on the Academy site since 2008.

Our Out of Hours Sports Programme continues to provide opportunities to be physically active. We work in partnership with a range of sports clubs and teams and fitness organisations to offer provision for local users.

Sport In Desford

Sport in Desford (SiD) was set up as an independent organisation by Desford Parish Council (DPC) in 1988 and it became a Registered Charity (No.: 1100319) in 2003. DPC acquired the 5 acre plot on Peckleton Lane from Caterpillar UK in 1988 and SiD has developed what was a derelict site ever since, including the building of the double storey clubhouse, the new Scout Hall (funded by DPC) and the extra tennis court.

SiD now provides for the following principle sports, mainly focused on Peckleton Lane, but with some on Kirkby Road Recreation Ground:

We also run weekly classes in:

SiD also opens up a variety of facilities for monthly groups including:

The SiD gym is also a leading provider for GP Referral and Heart Smart patients in the Borough

In autumn 2018, SiD is building 2 further floodlit sports courts at the front of the site to provide facilities for futsal and netball and further provision for tennis. This project also involves widening of the access road and creating 55 new car parking spaces at the front. This will be funded by Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, the European LEADER Fund, Desford Parish Council and several local charitable trusts.
